Graece Ε᾿πενδύτης, tunica dicebatur apud Graecos, ratione interulae, quam ὑποδύτην appellabant, et supre quam iniciebatur, non ratione pallii, cui suberat. Lat. Superaria. At Monachi Aegyptii, qui caprinam pellem seu melotem vel peram supra pallium (quod antiqui Monachi et praecipue Graeci, ut et horum Philosophi, supra omnem vestem iniecerant) sumebant, pelliceum ependyten illam vocabant, uti discimus ex Hieronymo in Vita Hilarionis.
